ECO-CONGREGATION
Eco-Congregation is an ecumenical environmental project for churches in Britain and Ireland. In Scotland, Eco-Congregation is managed and delivered through a partnership between Keep Scotland Beautiful and the Society, Religion and Technology Project of the Church of Scotland. It is endorsed by Action of Churches Together in Scotland and is supported financially by the Scottish Executive’s Sustainable Action Fund.
Eco-Congregation wants to:
* affirm the good environmental work of churches
* witness to the wider world that churches care for God’s creation
Eco-Congregation encourages initiatives in each of the following three areas:
1. Spiritual – by linking environmental issues with the Christian faith e.g. through worship
2. Practical – by practising what is preached e.g. an energy, churchyard or recycling project
3. Community – by the church working with or through their local community on environmental issues e.g. a litter pick, project with a school or other community group
Eco-Congregation aims to encourage churches to celebrate the gift of God's creation and to care for it in their life and mission and through the members’ personal lifestyle.
